Characterised by inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract. Exact cause is unknown but thought to be a result of weekend immune system.
Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease are types of IBD which differ in their site and depth of involvement.

Diagnosed by a combination of endoscopy endoscopy ( for Crohn’s disease) or colonoscopy ( for ulcerative colitis) and imaging studies like Contrast radiography, MRI, CT scan, stool samples and blood tests.
Treatment includes – Oral medications, Intravenous medications ( in case of flares and acute symptoms) , biological agents and surgery ( in non responders) .
